Pop-Up PortFringe Presents
ALICE’S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND
Artists Apply here through October 31, 2019
Pop-Up PortFringe is our annual fundraiser.
Your weird art can make the festival happen.
You can help – like, a lot.
Sound like fun?
CURIOUSER AND CURIOUSER…
Pop-Up Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland happens on March 28, 2019, offering 14 theater companies a shot at an incredibly bizarre mash-up classical theater experience. After four great years popping-up with classical plays, PortFringe is pumped to present a more delightfully whimsical offering as our fifth Pop-Up event! We can’t think of a more FRINGE-worthy source text than this colorful, pyschedelic, and downright weird little Lewis Carroll gem! See Past POP-UP Artists by clicking here. Pop-Up Artists will be selected by chance through a random Lottery pull to take place on Thursday, November 1, 2019. All applications will be pulled and numbered in order.
The play will be cut into 14 scenes and 14 artists will be selected. Pop-Up scenes/sections will be assigned based on Lottery Number – for example, the first lottery number selected will be assigned the first section of Alice. These scenes/selections will be sent to Artists with their Lottery results.
ARTIST COMPENSATION: Pop-Up Alice will be presented as part of PortFringe’s year-round fundraising effort. All proceeds will go directly back to PortFringe to offset the costs of presenting our upcoming 9th Annual PortFringe Festival in June 2020. Each participating Pop-Up Group will receive ten (10) complimentary PortFringe passes to be distributed as desired, for use at any performance taking place during next summer’s festival.
Unscheduled/Remaining Applications will be placed on a waitlist in the event that one of the scheduled Artists has to withdraw from the event. Please note you may only participate in one Pop-Up scene. If you choose to participate in someone else’s Pop-Up scene, you will forfeit your spot on the waitlist.
VERY BASIC RULES:
You must agree to present the Pop-Up scene assigned to you by the lottery (no switching with other artists).
You must present your entire scene in five minutes or less.
You must have extremely minimal and/or portable technical and design elements.
You must include one line of original text.
You may only participate in ONE Pop-Up scene.
You must agree to follow all other rules and policies outlined in the application (below)
Remember – this is PortFringe talking. Boring theater, go home. Really. Please.
Pop-Up is not a place for you to exemplify the original intent, not a time for precision of history.
Get strange. Go nuts.
No sets. Only the costumes on your backs and props you can carry.
Embrace the chaos. Expect the unexpected. Don’t plan for a proscenium or your audience neatly arranged in rows.
Bother to be weird.
It’s that easy.
