REVIEWS: BURAKEYE

Burakeye was down to 3 dancers when I saw them on Saturday night. They had transportation issues and were unable to get all their drums to the Apohadion. However, the show must go on. So with audio tracks of their troupe’s drumming, the dancers took to the stage extreme grace. If the skill of these three dancers is any inkling of what the entire Burakeye troupe would perform on stage, then they are amazing and I want to go back and the whole thing. I would help them haul their drums for a chance to experience the whole troupe.

I don’t even know how to review this show, because it exists so grandly on its own and contains itself so entirely. Burakeye makes you smile so much that your feel like your face is going to break, and it drums up good things all the way up from the vibrations in the floor. Come with only the knowledge that you’re about to be given a triumphant gift of energy, dancing, belly-rattling music, and a double shot of joy. Coupled with THE UNKINDEST CUT, this double feature is a tour de force to the power of movement as an opportunity to mold an audience, and to celebrate what is possible when two people get together to share a stage with a common goal.
