REVIEWS: Radical Softness

Radical Softness plays with boundaries and interconnectivity…who do we need?.. what do we do with the artifacts of others?… how do we balance that need for others and our desire to be? After the first PortFringe performance of Yuhas & Dancers piece (the first public performance even?) I was lucky to attend the talk back. The performers both offered us more information about their process as well as asked for audience feedback. This is a very openminded and intelligent group of artists working with other artists in their community: This piece Radical Softness came from the music created by a poet who watched another Yuhas & Dancers piece that was born from a poem by that poet. The cyclic nature of the art creation in different media is echoed in the circling of the dance. Go see this piece. The intertwining movements and calibration of movements within the dance is lovely. These women have talent and pull emotions out of their audience as if they were water…fluidly.

Resist and melt, confront and flee: four dancers hold space for each other as they push against the boundaries of their worlds. Real burdens are carried on stage. Dance transmutes the building blocks of struggle into bridges of discovery. A dynamic, powerful performance.
