POSTED 6/8/2021 – Inventing Trees is a visual arts troupe known for their inventive and stylish productions and Yippee Skippy is their latest out-of-this-world creation (literally)! According to the description on the PF21 website, this is the story of two bored young interstellar explorers out on a joy ride in their parent’s spaceship. I read that after I had seen the film and truthfully, while watching, I had no idea what was going on! But I didn’t care — the visuals and sound design were so great, I couldn’t take my eyes off it (it reminded me of an early 70’s John Carpenter film called Dark Star). There is no dialogue, just beeps and bleeps and whooshes and lots of cool intergalactic sounds. The puppetry and production design is wonderful — colorful and outrageous. There is so much to see that I recommend multiple viewings (I’m on my third!). A very enjoyable space romp.

POSTED 6/8/2021 – Really loved this. Puppets on film in space. Using a simple design, you are drawn to figure out what it all actually is. The sheer weirdness and overall gestalt is pretty brilliant.

POSTED 6/9/2021 – I’m not entirely sure what I just watched, but I like it! While the story might be a touch hard to follow, the creative puppetry and set designs more than make up for it.
