PF14 Artist Snapshot: Cauldron & Labrys Productions presents “Valerie Solanas at Matteawan”

NOTE: PortFringe will be profiling PF14 Artists and their shows on this blog in the weeks leading up to the festival (June 24-29, 2014). The next snapshot is of Cauldron & Labrys Productions – featuring the work of playwright Carolyn Gage for the third PortFringe festival in a row.

Artist: Cauldron & Labrys Productions
Show: Valerie Solanas at Matteawan
Description: August 1968, two pioneering activists in the budding Women’s Liberation Movement visit Valerie Solanas at the Matteawan State Hospital for the Criminally Insane. It has only been two months since she shot Andy Warhol. They are on a mission to recruit her as a spokeswoman for their movement. Valerie has other things on her mind…

Tell us something we don’t know about you and your PortFringe show.

Did you know that in 14 years of production, Cauldron & Labrys has produced 30 plays, and 30 of them were written by women??

What are you most looking forward to about PortFringe 2014?

I am really looking forward to putting up this show. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever produced in terms of core emotional violence.

Lobster or Steak? Discuss.
