PF14 Artist Snapshot: Hal Cohen presents “Intervention”

NOTE: PortFringe will be profiling PF14 Artists and their shows on this blog in the weeks leading up to the festival (June 24-29, 2014). The next snapshot is of Hal Cohen – local playwright, actor, director, and PortFringe artist presenting his own work for the second year in a row!

Artist: Hal Cohen
Show: Intervention
Description: Narcotic addiction ruins many lives and heroin, specifically, has made a big comeback. Intervention is a play that explores the delusion that is recreational heroin use. Dark humor. Dark subject. Can one survive such a dangerous delusion?

Tell us something we don’t know about you and your PortFringe show.

Something you don’t know about me? Hmmm … I once got lost in a Paris police station. Paris France. Not Paris Maine. Does Paris Maine even have a Police Station? My company? Am I a company? What company? I asked some of the most talented people I know if they wanted to be in my play. They’re good company! Great company! Our play is about family, relationships, and heroin. We hope you laugh. We hope you think. We hope this continues as a conversation as you leave the theater.

What are you most looking forward to about PortFringe 2014?

I look forward to seeing as many shows as possible. We have an abundance of talent here in Portland. Sharing this creative buzz with so many of my friends is a highlight.

Lobster or Steak? Discuss.

And what if I were a vegetarian? Huh huh huh? But I’m not. I’m a former Philadelphian and a present day Mainer. So how about one lobster with a side order of cheese steak. And don’t call it steak and cheese. It’s cheese steak, dammit!

Thanks, Hal! Have a great time!
