NOTE: PortFringe will be profiling PF14 Artists and their shows on this blog in the weeks leading up to the festival (June 24-29, 2014). The next snapshot is of Little Red Rug Series and the short, fast-paced, physical theater adaptation of The Princess Bride they are premiering at PortFringe.

Artist: Little Red Rug Series
Show: The Princess Bride
Description: Relive the adventures of Buttercup, Inigo and the Dread Pirate Roberts in a fast-pace, highly physical version ofThe Princess Bride.  Watch one of your favorite movies become a movement-based play on a tiny 2×6 foot stage!Using theband mime technique, the performers create movie-like effects entirely with their bodies. Little Red Rug is a physical theater series that presents devised versions of old favorites, where a myriad of characters come to life in an original, lively and imaginative approach to storytelling.

Tell us something we don’t know about you/your company, and your PortFringe show.

The Princess Bride is the first installment for the Little Red Rug series. There are five actors devising the piece together: Ian Bannon, Allen Daniels, Allison Kelly, Lorenza Lattanzi and Marjolaine Whittlesey.  It’s quite a process to create scenes that flow from action shots to landscapes without ever leaving the tiny stage. That means that a single actor morphs from character to character, to part of the landscape or to an object: no props, just bodies. An actor can be Prince Humperdink one moment and an R.O.U.S the next! While the audience can expect to recognize many of their favorite moments, they will also discover a whole new approach to visualizing and enjoying The Princess Bride. And the whole story takes place in under 15 minutes!!!

What are you most looking forward to about PortFringe 2014?

The collaborative love! It’s great working with five actors who hadn’t worked together before, in addition to a whole slew of others who are helping to roll out this first Little Red Rug. We’re also looking forward to sharing the stage with Deer Babies from Manhattan, as well as seeing and supporting all the other great shows.

Lobster, or Steak? Discuss.

Steak. To feed a theater ensemble, one single life feeds way more people!
