NOTE: PortFringe will be profiling PF14 Artists and their shows on this blog in the weeks leading up to the festival (June 24-29, 2014). The next snapshot is of Mad Horse Theatre Company and the third annual installment of their popular “Dave & Chrissy” series – an official PortFringe late night show for the third year.

Artist: Mad Horse Theatre Company
Show: Dave & Chrissy Court-Mandated Community Service Program
Description: : THE LAW FIRM OF BIGLEY AND TINZELMANN, REPRESENTING THE SENTENCED PARTIES, AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THE SENTENCE SET FORTH BY THE FIRST CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS OF CHICOTT COUNTY, ARKANSAS, ON THE 28TH OF JULY, 2013, AND HEREBY STATE THAT ALL APPLICABLE PENALTIES WILL BE CARRIED OUT THROUGH THE PROFESSED MEDIUM OF THE PLAINTIFFS, MAINLY, SONG, DANCE, AND INTERPRETIVE, EDUCATIONAL THEATRICS.

Tell us something we don’t know about you/your company, and your PortFringe show.

Unlike previous performances, Dave & Chrissy’s Court-Mandated Community Service Program will be heavily monitored. Neither Dave nor Chrissy is allowed to come within 15 feet of each other, or “striking distance.” This is a considerable step forward from their previous “within firing range” order. The stage will be taped off to keep boundaries clear. Alcohol consumption will be strictly monitored. All items within reach that qualify as “weapons” will be removed from the playing area. Chrissy’s mouth will be examined at showtime for any concealed weapons. Dave’s examination will take place before he is in public. A revolutionary new Shock Collar Treatment will be employed for this program.

Dave is now heavily tattooed, and created all the work himself, including his back, during his most recent stay at the Ouachita River Unit Correctional Facility outside Little Rock.

The beagles Chrissy rescued from what she believed to be a CDC laboratory outside Atlanta, GA have all been returned to the “Save The Beagles” facility from which she unwittingly released them. Chrissy is no longer contagious, but investigation is ongoing into how she subsequently penetrated a level 4 CDC biosafety laboratory, and why, as there were no animals at this level.

Erik is making significant progress through his “Out With the Anger! In With the Art!” therapeutic program. He has been living in a Tiny House built by his friend and former Dave & Chrissy Solid Bronze Dancer Maiki Saito.

Maiki has been participating in Jean Claude’s therapy with hands-on self-defense training and tutoring in unkelele and toe tap.

What are you most looking forward to about PortFringe 2014?

Dave is looking forward to meeting new young folks. He’s been longing for stimulation from fresh young faces, and after his time in the penal system, he feels that he has a great deal of experience to share with young men.

Chrissy is looking forward to the fresh air of the Empire Bar. After her time in “The Hole”, she has emerged, like Morgan Freeman in BRUBAKER, blinking into the life-giving glare of the Source 4s aimed at the stage. She is confident the sores will heal by showtime, and has a crate ready in case she begins to feel too agitated.

Jean Claude is a bit anxious about his participation, and performing his job correctly. Having control of Dave and Chrissy’s court-mandated shock collars puts him in a tenuous and awkward position. But this is part of his therapy – pushing through the old modeling of his years working for his parents on the nightclub circuit, unquestioningly doing their bidding, and finding that kernel of strength within himself to say “No!” when his gut says “No!”, and activating the shock collars if necessary. It is an incredibly tiny kernel, and Jean Claude repeatedly keeps losing it through a hole in his pants pocket, but it’s a kernel nonetheless.

Lobster, or Steak? Discuss.

Dave: Steak.
Chrissy: Lobster
Jean Claude: Mom says I’m allergic, so I give my lobster to her. Dad says if I eat red meat I’ll get rickets. He eats the steak.
