REVIEWS – Sexology: The Musical!

Viewing ‘Sexology:The Musical’ should be a quintessential part to approaching sexual healthiness in our world. A truly engaging and necessary piece delivered through the raw, energetic talent of 54 year old Mel Mosley, this is a show that will stick with you. Laughing, singing, humming, and crying through this hour long show, I walked away at the end having no doubts that Mel was living her best life (as stated in the show’s description). Educational, musical and laugh out loud hilarious, I throughly enjoyed myself and would love to see more from this ‘no holds – take life by the balls’ artist.

Meet Mel Moseley your personal pixie of sex positivity and relationship re-thinking. Sexology: The Musical! manages to deftly balance educating, entertaining, and inspiring thanks to Mel’s serious performing chops, disarming sense of humor, and ability to roll with it, even when tech misfires threaten to derail. She names and calls in her early musical influences – Joni Mitchell and Carly Simon – with a strong voice and folky guitar to help tell her honest and often sexy tale of self-discovery and autonomy through her ongoing exploration of sex as play as a solo poly. And if you don’t know what that means, skip the Google search and go see the show.

Mel has sojourned the structure of non-traditional relationships. Her musical memoir contains a cringetastic first-date story that inspired me to open an old word document containing songs I wrote during my early 20’s. Which is to say: this show may have you examining your own ideas about love and relationships.
