Snuggle down for a moment in time with Maya Williams, Portland’s current Poet Laureate, on show specific to PortFringe 2022 in ‘Loving Your Family Hurts’. During this time in Event #5, audience members hear experiences of grief and personal moments shared dealing with a very seclusive, religious, and yet loving family told through Maya’s perspective and experience.

Relaxing into the mind of this brilliant spoken word artist, I experienced a beautifully fluid collection of relatable material told in the style of Maya’s smooth poetic form.

A show that I would recommend to anyone who had experienced loss, be sure to bring your tissues, be prepared to feel emotions, and snap, clap, and dance your way through this must see and heartfelt retelling.
