WORKSHOP: FRINGE TOURING 101

Have a great (portable) fringe show? Want to tour it around to fringes festivals and similar events around
North America? This workshop is an intro to the logistics side of touring; the different ways fests pick & pay
their artists, how to choose which fests will work best for you, how to schedule, budget & market on the
road. The class will be a discussion, with the chance to check out marketing materials from different
festivals and touring shows.Through his company, Minion Productions, Grant Knutson helps independent
artists find resources and plan their fringe tours.

Where should you grab lunch in Portland’s downtown while you’re Fringe-ing? What about all this beer that you’ve heard about? And where should you flyer for your upcoming show to reach new audiences? What is Portland Maine’s motto, and what’s the city’s relation to the other Portland? Learn the answers to all these
questions and more! Come take a walking tour of Portland’s downtown with PortFringe Box Office and
Audience Services Director James Patefield. There will be talk of BEER! HISTORY! GENTRIFICATION! Please
bring comfortable shoes and a notebook to write down all these HOT TIPS! Fringe Artists, friends, and
members of the public are invited! This event is FREE! Get dropped off right at the beginning of the Artist
Happy Hour!

WORKSHOP: EXPERIMENTS IN CONNECTION: YOU & I WITH
with Yuhas and Dancers, Columbia, SC

The workshop, taught by 4 dancers of Yuhas & Dancers, will explore the performance and discipline of connection through movement exercises we have completed to construct our dance show. The workshop will conclude with a short preview into the work of Yuhas & Dancers, linking the exercises with our Fringe work, “Experiments in Connection: You & I.” www.meredithyuhasanddancers.com

Dance teaches us how to see one another with compassionate eyes, something our world very much needs! The workshop will include an approachable introduction into partner work and tools to access numbed sensations of the body. We want to share space with the first time dancer, the awkward teenager, the business professional, and seasoned technicians. All are welcome and encouraged to participate! (We recommend movable clothing).

WORKSHOP: ROLEPLAY GAMES AS THEATER
with Chris DeFilipp

Dungeons and Dragons or Pathfinder players use character sheets as jumping points for their
improvisational decisions and, in tandem with the Dungeon Master/Game Master, they spin a story.
Participants will explore how that can be used to create fantasy theater or in different ways physically
instead of necessarily just sitting around a table.

WORKSHOP: PLAYWRITING FOR THE SOLO PERFORMER

WORKSHOP: IMMERSIVE PERFORMANCE BOOTCAMP
with Bare Portland

Join Bare Portland to explore immersive performance techniques. Learn a few tricks about how to involve
invite participation at different levels and create an ethical immersive experience. Participants are
encouraged to bring paper, and a marker or pen.
