Review: (a)political

A bearded man standing in front of a light blue background and a large American flag, holding a sign with black text on a white background that says "What do we do now?" The title of the show, "(a)political", is written across the top in white text.

Performance 6/21/25 – The Apohadion Theater

Bobby Wesley is a good storyteller.  His piece (a)political is not apolitical nor is it apologetic.  Wesley invites us to buckle our seatbelts and get comfortable in his tale of Florida campaigning under what we thought at the time was the worst president ever- George W Bush. Wesley masterfully balances between the saccharine and raunchy details of this meandering story while lobbing jokey metaphors at us as if they were ripe pears in a cow pasture.
There were many times Wesley could have turned the story bad…made it cringey.  But no.  Wesley danced his words into a win.

Performance 6/24/25 – Coffee By Design

Bobby Wesley’s rapid fire delivery of a local Florida political campaign is thoroughly entertaining, informative, and a bit bittersweet. I followed the wonderful details, dance moves, and tangents with the anticipation of reading the early morning headlines. But when he finished and I had time to think about our political process, how it has changed since 2006, and his prophetic last line really resonated, “What do we do now?” Go see this and catch his enthusiasm so we can take it all back again. And no more little flag pins!
