Household Items Music (Boston, MA)

Household Items is an ever-expanding collection of songs by pianist/composer Brian Friedland that mine texts from domestic products, childhood poetry, and a lease from an overzealous landlord for lyrics.  With the aid of vocalist Laura Grill, each composition comically comments on the source material’s dramatic and absurd nature. Their concerts offer many chances for audience participation that make for an especially memorable and engaging experience.

Household Items creator Brian Friedland became enamored of the dramatic potential of product descriptions (and warnings, ingredient lists, etc.) after dramatically singing the label on a can of Spot Shot Carpet Cleaner while cleaning up his cat’s poop.  Since then he has composed 40 songs touching on every facet of domestic of life.
