Performance 6/21/25 – The Apohadion Theater
Neologisms and firing my therapists are some of my favorite things. “Jeff Probst, I Am Receiving Your Coded Messages” has those as well as a slap and tickle at the cult-like thing that is “Survivor”.
Out There Theater Company does an amazing job at wrapping up the messy bodies, the middle school angst of star crushes, unresolved trauma, and internet dating with comorbidities into a hilariously wacky play. Also, there were cookies. I love cookies.

The world needs unhinged comedy more than ever and Out There Theatre Company did not disappoint!
Jeff Probst… is absolute chaos and pure, unhinged fringe at its finest. By the end, there are sweaty bodies, popcorn, tarot cards, and pillows scattered across the floor… and somewhere in the back, a Jeff Probst with glowing red eyes is watching it all unfold.
It’s the kind of show you don’t analyze. You just let it happen to you.
But don’t be fooled because behind the absurdity is sharp writing and brilliant comedic timing. The script is smart, layered, and packed with physical theater gems — including a sexy scene behind a couch that my director brain deeply appreciated.
It’s fast-paced, tightly executed, and features a wildly captivating performance by Sarah Kennedy. It’s giving pure clown genius.
If you’re a Survivor fan, you’ll love the subtle (and not-so-subtle) references. Super fans, this one’s for you.
10/10. No notes. Just go.

What. The. Fringe… Before we get started with this, a quick forewarning, this show is very sexually charged (aka Horny) and does include the following: Sex, Therapy, Manipulation, Survivor, General Horniness, Spiritual Psychosis, Hinge, Paranoia, Catfishing, Romance, A little bit more Sex and ThaRealJeffProbst. All that along with the warning I got before the show, which effectively told me it was a little confusing and holy hell there is a lot happening. Personally, the story made clicked really easily (I don’t know what that says about me but whatever) Because it’s one of those stories where everything ties back together, and yes at the end they do do a little recap to help explain all the chaos… Ok now that the (not so) quick forewarning is out the way I can talk about this very silly show. This story follows the life of 32 year old Jenny. A very single and very unemployed lady who, about 15 years ago stumbled into a chat room with ThaRealJeffProbst, and ever since then has been “Nosferatu-ed” by Jeff Probst who has become her “Lover, My Confidant, and sorta my Dad” and in case you were wondering, yes she does end up praying to the Jeff a few times because Jeff is what a man could be. That and by the end of the show she becomes “Jeff Probst’s Joanne of Ark, Bitch” after a few spiritual signs, one even done by the influencer version of Sybill Trelawney, who made sure that you should “claim those vibes Divas”…
Before I get to the ending section where I tell people to see this show, I have to talk about the set. Vibes? Nailed. I felt like I was looking at a 42 year old conspiracy theorist divorced dad’s bachelor pad who is overtly spiritual, you know, the crystal kind of spiritual. But it doesn’t stop there because there are even set changes, from the tropical island all the way to the warehouse behind a coffee shop. So, I give them a round of applause when it comes to their creativity on both the story and set design (and of course sound, a lot of survivor sounds) truly a lot of fun…
Ok, now we are at the section where you are probably sitting there now, reading this and wondering what the hell I’m on about but trust me when you see the show, yes WHEN, they have one more performance on Friday the 27th at the Apohadion Theatre. So go see the show and see some wonderful actors, and be prepared for a lot of Jeff.
