Performance 6/21/25 – The Apohadion Theater

The Fool is an absolute spectacle. Anchored by a phenomenal performance from the actor playing the Fool, this piece shines with energy, nuance, and wit. The writing is sharp and delightfully unpredictable, and the creative team’s attention to detail in the costume and prop design really elevated the entire production. The actor’s range was stunning — one moment drawing laughs, the next sending chills down the spine. A truly magnetic performance that deserves full applause.

Performance 6/24/25 – Rising Tide Brewing

‘The Fool’ is a creative and ambitious piece, both visually rich and intellectually sharp. The costume design was a standout for me – it was meticulously done, and launched the audience immediately into the world of the play.

The script was also impressive: clever, quick, and layered with meaning. I was particularly interested in the use of choral dissonance as a further immersive feature that heightened the sense of foreboding and menace – the combination of recorded and live vocals surrounding the audience was deeply effective.

I would also be remiss not to applaud the actor playing the Fool. Their performance showcased incredible range, jumping nimbly from hilarious to terrifying to melancholy and back again.

While certain moments felt cramped or visually muddled, the blocking challenges I noticed seemed more a limitation of the performance space than of the direction, and actors made smart decisions to accommodate the playing space.
