What do a man in a donkey suit wearing hot pants, acrylic paints, the current decline in television viewing, and someone shouting and standing on a wad of money in a New York City street all have in common? You’re just going to have to come see this show to find out! I don’t want to give away all The Lord Chamberlain’s (Other) Men’s surprises, since the disruption of surprise is often where the gold can be found in performance art. Yet I will say that an unexpected earnestness at times underlies the impromptu art and quirky artifice, and kept me thinking long after the laughs — of which there are many. This show is strange and perfectly Fringe-y in the best ways.

Art is Dead and That’s Okay presented by The Lord Chamberlain’s (Other) Men is a performance piece that offers visuals like a Donkey in leather hotpants carrying a personal PA alongside rich veins of brooding platitudes that echo the sentiment and stylings of David Foster Wallace. Bring your clove cigarettes and prepare to enjoy a pregnant pause or two while the artists muse over the validity of creation mid brush stroke.
